The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that explosion savant Michael Bay is in talks to direct ‘13 Hours’, a film about the infamous Benghazi attack. OH BOY.
You probably know Benghazi best from your angry uncle’s rants on Facebook, or maybe you recognize it better in #hashtag #form. A #Benghazi movie would undoubtedly stir up controversy. It’s a subject that deserves a thoughtful, nuanced take. Who better for a thoughtful, nuanced take than the director of ‘Pearl Harbor’?
Yes, a Michael Bay Benghazi movie is the ultimate hot take. I’m picturing the slow motion American flags right now and….my god…it’s full of stars! Bayghazi might be the end of everything we hold dear.
’13 Hours’ is based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s book ‘13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi’ with a script adapted by Chuck Hogan (‘The Strain‘). It’s received very good reviews from the two sites I was able to click on before hitting the publish button on this post, so it probably deserves better than a Bay adaptation.
