The trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, Inherent Vice, was released earlier today, and it looks like a fun change of pace from Anderson’s last couple of films. The director teams up with Joaquin Phoenix again, presumably drinking less paint thinner than in The Master.
For any issues that people might have had with the story, people can’t deny that The Master was beautifully directed and acted. It’s exciting to see Anderson and Phoenix together again. The film is based on Thomas Pynchon’s 2009 novel of the same title. Phoenix plays P.I. Larry “Doc” Sportello. He also, as pointed out by the New York Times’ Dave Itzkoff, looks startlingly like Wolverine, so much so that I will go in half expecting Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart to appear mid-credits.
The film also features Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, and a whole bunch of people that you’ll probably recognize. Here’s the dang trailer already!
