A television show based on Fargo shouldn’t have worked, but thanks to Noah Hawley, it did. Somehow, Fargo is coming back for another season of shocked northerners and bloody snow (h/t to Alan Sepinwall, who you should absolutely be following).
Sadly, we won’t be seeing any more of Martin Freeman’s weasely Lester Nygaard or Allison Tolman’s Molly Solverson. Instead, we’ll be getting an entirely new cast, that somehow has to match the outstanding ensemble from the first season. They’re supposedly moving on to an entirely new storyline as well, but a storyline following the adventures of deaf hitman Mr. Wrench would own quite hard.
Regardless of the story, you can be sure there will be plenty of quirky Coen-inspired goodness and dark humor when Fargo comes back, although that might not be until 2015.
In my (poor) attempt to be different, I didn’t mention what everyone was speculating that the second season would focus on. Noah Hawley spoke at the Television Critics Association Press Tour and confirmed that Fargo season 2 will focus on the Sioux Falls case that haunted Lou Solverson. Keith Carradine won’t be reprising the character, unless special effects wizards can manage to de-age him 30 years without it looking like complete garbage. Let the casting speculation begin!
