The Late Show is losing a legend. David Letterman has announced that he is retiring in 2015. The news came out in an odd manner, with REM bassist Mike Mills tweeting that Letterman will be stepping down.
Dave just announced his retirement #2015 #muchlovedave

Other sources have confirmed this report, and it’s a real shame. Even if you don’t particularly get Dave nowadays, you have to acknowledge the impact and influence that he’s left on comedy today. Greg Wyshynski from the Yahoo hockey blog Puck Daddy, summed it up nicely in this tweet.
@stevelepore It’s pretty simple: Every single thing that’s funny about late night television today tracks back to Letterman.

All I can think about is the Late Show arc on FX’s Louie. Oh no, please don’t let that actually happen to Louis C.K.
More on this as it develops, but for now we just leave you with one word: Buttafuoco
