Welcome to the Multiverse

sn-multiverseIt seems like mind blowing scientific discoveries are happening all the time lately. The Higgs Boson Particle, Footage of a Giant Squid in the wild, and most recently evidence to support the Theory of Inflation, the expansion of space in the early Universe at a rate much faster than the speed of light. I know you’re like “but the speed of light is the cosmic speed limit, bro” and I’m like “bro, I know but check this out”. Recent discoveries by the Bicep2 telescope at the South Pole show distinct patterns in the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation or CMBR, the oldest light in the Universe. This light is invisible to the naked eye and we must use a radio telescope to see it. The consistency of this pattern leads scientist to believe that the universe must have inflated at incredible speeds, greater than the speed of light, just 10−36 seconds after the Big Bang. This explains why space is fairly smooth. Now here’s where it gets tricky. Scientists cannot explain what started this expansion or what stopped it leaving the possibility open that this type of inflation could happen elsewhere in space and time creating new universes parallel to our own. In other words, multiple Big Bangs creating multiple universes. This is the first observational evidence to support the theory of a Multiverse or Parallel Universes. This could mean that there is another universe parallel to our own that operates under completely different laws of physics. In fact there are an infinite number of possible types of universes that could exist just beyond our cosmological horizon.  Maybe in a parallel universe you got that promotion and you also have six pack abs! Now pick your brain up off the floor and try to go about the rest of your day.
